BOWERBIRD ARTS TRAIL

Founding Artists

The Bowerbird Arts Trail is a new creation involving likeminded artists from the Bay to Broulee. We hope that through our collaborations we have created an easily accessible art experience for locals and visitors to the region. We appreciate, not everyone wants sunburn…or to watch whales…or to take their dog for a swim…or ride their bike…or hike our Munjip Trail…or do any other of the multitude of activities available on any given day. Some people like their art too!

We created the Bowerbird Arts Trail to build a supportive, friendly, and fun way for local artists to lift each other up — proving that there’s space in the art world (and our beautiful coastal community) for everyone. Referring visitors from one studio to the next has worked wonderfully, helping us all share in the joy of connection, creativity, and collaboration.

Suzanne Carter Artworks
A mostly self-taught artist & songwriter who has also studied art and design, Suzanne creates acrylic and mixed-media canvases — from contemporary and abstract botanicals to inspirational watercolours. Her work expands into locally inspired wearable art, hand-painted cards, and LP clocks. “Art has been a lifeline, bringing me joy, purpose, and peace — and I hope to share that same creative connection with others through the Bowerbird Arts Trail.

Naomi Crowther
An abstract painter formally trained at the ANU School of Art and RMIT School of Design, Naomi explores how time and nature shape our connections and sense of self. Working in impasto acrylics, metallic leaf, cyanotypes and hand-cut paper, her poppies, lotus and coastal series reflect the beauty of her Surf Beach surroundings. “I love translating the colours and forms of the natural world onto canvas — bringing that connection with nature into people’s homes.

Art By Kez Creations
Self-taught and intuitive, Kerrie draws inspiration from the calm beauty of the South Coast she’s long called home. Working with watercolour, resin, and beachside treasures, she creates artworks, seaglass collections, caravan-themed gifts, and coastal keepsakes. “Each piece is inspired by the beauty of coastal life and simple living — a reflection of how grateful I am to call Batemans Bay home.

Art by Gemscones – Gemma Porteous
A self-taught artist with a background in advertising and marketing, Gemma creates bold, eclectic 2-D works designed to spark joy. Passionate about reusing and repurposing materials, her colourful pieces radiate playfulness and authenticity. “I make whatever feels right on the day — if it makes me happy, there’s a good chance it’ll make you happy too. Life already has enough serious bits; art should lift the soul.

Janet Kininmonth - In My Element Glass Design Handcrafted kiln-formed glass, created on the Batemans Coast of Yuin Country. Sculptural and wearable pieces reflect the layered light, textures, and rhythms of the South Coast. Inspired by ocean movement and seasonal colour, each work connects art, land, and sea. The Bowerbird Arts Trail invites you to explore open studios from Bay to Broulee, meet local artists, and experience the creativity that flows through our coastal community.

Pauline T. BARNES - Raised to respect and observe the natural world, my art reflects a lifelong love of light, colour, pattern and form found in nature. Living in Malua Bay, I’m constantly inspired by the breathtaking beaches and sparkling coastal waters that shape both my life and my work. Through my paintings, I strive to capture the energy and emotion of the sea—its power and peace, chaos and calm—translating each moment into light-filled, dynamic artworks that celebrate the beauty of our coastline.
